Woogies convenience store in Moss Point closed after fire

MOSS POINT, MS (WLOX) -

Multiple agencies are investigating who or what caused a fire that closed Woogies convenience store off of Main Street in Moss Point Thursday.

According to Moss Point Fire Chief Clarence Parks, the fire happened around 4:15 in the morning. When Moss Point firefighters arrived on the scene, flames were shooting out of the building.

Once firefighters put out the fire, Parks said a foul smell caused by an accelerant filled the air. Parks said he believes the fire may be an act of arson.

Twenty percent of the merchandise in the store was damaged by the fire. The rest of the items were damaged by the smoke.

WLOX Reporter Patrice Clark is on the scene. She'll have more details on WLOX News and WLOX.com.
