CAMP SHELBY, MS (WDAM) -

Members of an internationally-known Mississippi rock band who wrote a song honoring the National Guard met face-to-face with troops training at Camp Shelby Saturday.

Four members of 3 Doors Down toured the post and shook hands with troops training at the 154th Regional Training Institute.

The band, which is from Escatawpa, is on a break from touring.

Their 2008 tune "Citizen Solider" is often played at Camp Shelby during large assemblies.

"We're happy with all the ways that song has been used and we hope in some way that it motivates the troops and helps them along in some aspect or their deployment or their training," said Brad Arnold, lead singer for the group.

"It's really cool to be here today and see some of the people that go overseas and fights for the country and it's just a great thing to be a part of," said Todd Harrell, bassist for the band.

"It actually makes me feel really good to have the support of such well-known individuals come here and spend some time with us," said Sergeant First Class Mandie Ponder, one of the National Guard soldiers who met the band.

"It really means a lot to the soldiers here and it means a lot to the guys coming from around the country that are getting ready to (mobilize) and it's great for morale," said Staff Sergeant James Johnson, another soldier who met with band members.

Since 2000, 3 Doors Down has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide.
