GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Several dogs rescued from a Stone County hoarder moved to Gulfport Friday. The Humane Society of South Mississippi is working to find foster families to help rehabilitate the animals until they are well enough to be adopted.
Over the last two weeks, the dogs have been housed and treated at a Hattiesburg veterinary clinic where they also received one-on-one care and love from the staff at the clinic. Unfortunately for these animals, that's a brand new experience.
"What these dogs need is time and love," said Tara High, HSSM Executive Director. "They need time to grow back their hair and love from a family to learn that people are to be trusted—with those two things, these dogs can go on to live happy, full lives despite their ghastly past."
Most of the dogs in need of foster homes are medium-size and will require 6-8 weeks' worth of care. Anyone willing and able to temporarily care for one of these dogs should call the Humane Society at (228) 863-3354, ext. 136.
