Suspect identified in St. Gabriel attempted armed robbery

IBERVILLE PARISH, LA (WAFB) -

East Iberville High, East Iberville Elementary and MSA Academy East were placed on lock down in February after a grocery store less than a mile away from the high school was nearly robbed. The suspect in that attempted armed robbery has been identified and is wanted.

The suspect has been identified as Wardell Anderson. He is charged with two counts of attempted second degree murder and attempted armed robbery.

According to police the suspect, Anderson, walked up to the clerk in St. Gabriel Grocery, handed over a bag and note and held up a gun. Police say that is when the gun clip fell out. Police say there were three suspects in the attempted armed robbery, but two have already been arrested.

The schools were placed on lockdown because after a scuffle with one of the female grocery store clerks, Anderson ran out of the store towards the high school.

Anderson is described as a black male in his mid 30's, about 5'8" tall.
