UPDATE: Special election date moved for House District 95

JACKSON, MS (WLOX) -

Voters in House District 95 will have a little longer to decide who should represent them in Jackson. One day after announcing a special election date, Governor Phil Bryant amended it.

The new date for the special election is May 28. The qualifying deadline for candidates is now April 29. If no candidate receives a majority of votes cast in the special election, a runoff election will be held June 18, 2013.

Election officials in Hancock and Harrison counties expressed concern that the original runoff date coincided with municipal elections and may have led to voter confusion.

The special election will fill the seat left vacant by the recent death of Rep. Jessica Upshaw.
