24-year old Joseph Kennedy was seriously injured last Thursday when he was hit by shrapnel from a mortar. He and two other Marines were on guard duty near Fallujah, Iraq. Kennedy's parents, Robert and Carlotta, received the news Friday from their son's commanding officer.  The other two Marines were not hurt.

Kennedy was treated in an Iraqi hospital, before being to Germany. His parents say he is out of intensive care and is doing okay. The shrapnel hit him on his left side. The Kennedy's say as soon as they know the travel arrangements, they will fly to Maryland to see their son at the Bethesda Naval Hospital.
