Second Liners do it again... Easter Extravaganza is a big hit

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

The Second Liners know how to put on a show and when they do it, they bring a crowd. Hundreds of people flooded John Henry Beck Park for the organization's Annual Easter Extravaganza.

"The Second Liners are putting on another doozie. They're doing their thing and we're loving it," Felix Gins said. "All the kids are out here on the playground. The splash pad is working. It's awesome. We're having an awesome time."

The idea is to bring the community together, sharing the joy of Easter, while spreading a message of love and remembering the true meaning of the holiday. Janette Shabazz, this year's Reigning Queen of the Second Liners, said that message is coming across just fine.

"We're all about promoting positive things in the community. We do that all year round," Shabazz said. "Although it's a Mardi Gras Club, we're community based first. We try to promote this type of event for all children. Whether they have something to do or not... it's all about pulling everybody together."

This is the 9th year for the event, and from the looks of it, the families in the surrounding area seem to be enjoying it.

"I think this crowd has probably doubled from last year," organizer Pinky Lewis said. "Last year, I estimated about 300 people and they were here today before we even started at 2pm. We're just giving back to the community and letting everybody know that there's someone out there who cares and someone that's willing to share."
