WASHINGTON, D.C. (WDAM) -

Congressman Steven Palazzo is hoping a new amendment to the Constitution that he's proposed will nullify the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare. That House Joint Resolution would limit the power of Congress to impose a tax on a failure to purchase goods or services.

Under Obamacare, individuals who refuse to purchase health insurance could be taxed.

"Not only does it protect our freedoms and it keeps government from forcing us to purchase a good or service or to pay a tax, but it also fixes the rights of conscience objection, where Catholic universities and religious charities don't like the fact that the government is going to tell them to violate their conscience and provide products that they don't want to," Palazzo said. "It fixes all those problems."

That proposed amendment is House Joint Resolution 28.
