Metro shoppers finish last minute Easter shopping

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Rebecca Nelson filled her cart up with grocery bags packed with the fixings for a large Easter dinner at the Save-A-Lot grocery store near the Medical Mall in Jackson. In addition to making banana pudding from scratch Nelson also plans to make a large spread.

"It's potatoes for potato salad and my okra for my greens and I got turnip greens and mustard greens at the house and turkey and dressing," said Nelson.

At Target in Jackson Easter candy and eggs for dying were quickly being bought. WLBT caught up with Madison teen Alex Borst who was buying Easter clothes for church.

"For church tomorrow I got some long pants and some gray ones and I think I got a button up," said Borst.

For Borst Easter means much more than just new clothes.

"Symbolically its when Christ died and was resurrected so that means a lot to my faith," Borst explained to WLBT.

William Peeler who is visiting from Virginia was picking up some last minute items for his families Easter meal.

"It's just great to be here with my wife's grandmother I've been knowing her for 24 years, my wife and I have been together that long," said Peeler.

Many stores are closed or have special hours on Easter. If you have any last minute items to pick up call the store ahead of time to see if it is open.
