Saints get defensive help with signing of Victor Butler

NEW ORLEANS (WAFB) -

The New Orleans Saints have signed former Dallas Cowboys linebacker Victor Butler to a two year contract.

After a visit with the Saints earlier this month, Butler took trips to see the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles before deciding to sign with New Orleans.

Butler played defensive end at Oregon State where he totaled 110 tackles, 39.5 stops behind the line of scrimmage and 26 sacks. As a senior team captain he earned first-team All-Pac 10 honors.

The 25-year-old Butler was originally drafted in the fourth-round in the 2009 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys, but he spent much of his time playing behind stars DeMarcus Ware and Anthony Spencer.

In his four years with Dallas, Butler had 11 sacks, five forced fumbles and 64 total tackles.

The 6-2, 245 pound Butler will be reunited with Saints defensive coordinator Rob Ryan and is a perfect fit for the Saints new 3-4 defense.
