Deputies find manhunt suspect hiding in a shower

HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

The search for a man who eluded authorities from Virginia to Mississippi ended Thursday when the suspect was found hiding in a shower at a home in Harrison County.

Joseph Snow Schrotz was the target of a massive manhunt Wednesday after leading Harrison County Sheriff's deputies on a high speed chase, starting on Interstate 10.

Officials tell WLOX News Schrotz was found in a home on Talley Shaw Road, which is close to where Harrison, Hancock, Stone, and Pearl River counties all meet.

No one was at home this morning, when authorities say Schrotz got into the house. Sometime before 11:30am, the homeowner stopped by for lunch and noticed a problem with his alarm keypad. He tracked down sheriff's deputies who then entered the home and found their suspect hiding in the shower, unarmed.

Investigators say they can now add burglary of a residence to the list of charges Schrotz will face.

Multiple agencies, including sheriff's deputies and K-9 units from Hancock, Harrison and Pearl River counties, as well as Mississippi Highway Patrol officers were all involved in the manhunt at some point.

After the suspect ditched his car Wednesday, investigators found two handguns and an AR-15 assault rifle inside. That had authorities concerned that they were searching for an armed man.
