RANKIN COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Bryan Owens, the inmate who escaped a Yazoo County Community Work Center Sunday, committed suicide hours after being captured, according to the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
MDOC officials said the 27-year-old, who was housed alone, used a sheet to hang himself in his cell at the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility in Rankin County Tuesday afternoon. Officers found him while serving dinner. He was pronounced dead at 5:09 p.m.
Owens was captured Monday around 12:38 a.m. as he sat in a vehicle with a woman in a Walmart parking lot in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
According to MDOC, he was serving a 12 year sentence for burglary, vehicle theft and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon from Harrison County. He was sentenced in May 2011. An escape charge was pending at the time of his death.
