WOOD COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

An small gas pump started an oil tank fire just north of Quitman off of Highway 37 on Tuesday night.

The Quitman Fire Department and the Coke Pleasant Grove Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call at around 6:30 p.m.

The fire sent black smoke cascading into the sky, and could be seen in Mineola.

The Quitman Fire Chief says the fire spread from the gas pump to the tanks. He says some of the tanks were holding salt water, others had oil inside them.

Firefighters say at least one of the tanks is destroyed. The fire also burned a pickup truck and a trailer.

Officials say two men were working in the field when the fire started. No one was injured but firefighters say one tank did explode.

"It was a pretty good sized fire. There was a valve open that was spewing oil out of it. I mean, it was only one tank that actually erupted," said Junior Stovall from the Quitman Fire Department.

The Quitman Fire Department says this fire is still under investigation until the county Fire Marshal can investigate the scene.
