Haughton softball coach accused of sexual misconduct with student

HAUGHTON, LA (KSLA) -

Jessica Banet, one of the girls' softball coaches at Haughton High School, was arrested by Bossier Parish deputies Friday after allegedly having a sexual relationship with a student.

Deputies say the relationship with the student, whom she coached on the softball team, had been going on for the past few weeks.

Banet, 28, was also a teacher at Princeton Elementary School. KSLA News 12 confirms Banet resigned on Friday, immediately after she was charged with prohibited sexual conduct between an educator and a student.

The misdemeanor charge specifically addresses sexual conduct between a teacher and student, even in the cases of consensual relationships, and it applies to students up to the age of 21.

The student in this case is 17, which is the age of consent in Louisiana.

No other students are believed to have been involved.
