Hostage Situation Leads To Gulfport Man Behind Bars

A Gulfport man is in jail Monday charged with eight counts of kidnapping and aggravated assault.

Police say 38-year-old, Ronald Stewart disrupted a church service yesterday at Mount Olive Masonic Lodge in North Gulfport by demanding that his ex-wife leave with him. When she refused, Stewart reportedly assaulted her with a sharp object. He then held several members of the church at gunpoint.

Stewart released the church members, then barricaded himself inside the church. Police were finally able to coax him out.

Stewart is being held at the Harrison County Detention Center on a $4.5 million bond pending a hearing.
