JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

A Jones County school bus driver has been suspended after a first grader spent most of a school day on the bus without being noticed.

The 6-year-old first grader at East Jones Elementary School apparently boarded the bus at 7:30 a.m. Monday.

After interviewing the parents and the bus driver, Superintendent Tommy Parker says it appears the student crawled under the seats, covered himself with a blanket he brought from home, and went to sleep.

The bus driver found the child when she left for her afternoon pickup. The student was not injured.

Parker called it an unusual situation and said the parents did not want the bus driver disciplined. Parker says the bus driver will remain suspended until the investigation is complete.
