JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Many central Mississippi residents are spending Tuesday assessing the damage left behind by Monday's hailstorm. The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency has received reports of damage in 17 counties.

Area body shops are swamped with business. Clinton Body Shop staff say they worked late into the night taking in damaged cars.  They say some cars will be totaled out.  The average wait to get repairs made there is estimated to be about two weeks.

State and local agencies are also assessing damage to their vehicles.

MEMA says its fleet of vehicles in Pearl sustained extensive damage from golf ball and tennis ball size hail.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol's fleet was also heavily damaged Monday. Preliminary reports show 65 vehicles were damaged.

The Jackson Police Department officials say 25 of the department's vehicles are damaged. Many of those vehicles are now at the Mississippi State Fairgrounds in the flea market building.

Monday evening General Sales Manager David Rinehart says 250 vehicles were damaged at Paul Moak Honda. Many of the vehicles have broken windows and windshields. Rinehart says the damage will be repaired and Honda is already sending in new vehicles.

David Hall, General Sales Manager of Herrin-Gear, says every car on their 20 acres of lots is damaged.
