Local businesses entice buyers at home show

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

The HomeBuilders Association brought close to 80 businesses together this weekend at the Coast Coliseum for the annual Home Show. During the event, homeowners could find everything from home furnishings and accessories, to landscaping and air conditioning.

"The Home Show is doing really good. A little slow, but that just means the fish are bigger. The people coming are really dedicated to getting something done. We actually got more leads this year than any year in the past," said John Barnes of Barnes Heating and Air.

For the vendors, those leads come in handy. It's always exciting to show buyers the latest products and services available to them. Especially when those services are mostly local.

"I think its really great for our community for people to come and see that the coast is open for business. We've got a lot of member business and anything you need here whether its construction, a service provider, tradesmen, artisan," Traci Panter said.

The idea is for those referrals to later become new business ventures. But even if they don't, most of the vendors say they're happy to be putting their names out there.

"We're just proud to be here," Barnes said. "With the economy the way it is, we're proud to be here and making still making things happen."
