HINDS COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Multiple people were injured in a two-vehicle crash that shutdown Interstate 20 Sunday afternoon.

Cpl. Odis Easterling with the Mississippi Highway Patrol says an Isuzu Rodeo was traveling in the left lane of I-20 eastbound and tried to switched lanes and hit a Honda Accord that was in its blind spot in the right lane.

The Isuzu flipped multiple times and landed in the westbound lanes. Multiple people in the SUV were injured and one was airlifted from the scene. Officials haven't released the identities of those injured or their conditions.

The Honda came to rest in the median. None of its occupants were injured.

Traffic was backed up for more than three miles while emergency crews responded to the wreck and the scene was cleared. Police diverted traffic off the interstate at the Bolton exit while the westbound lanes were shutdown.

There are times when we need to put aside our smart phones and do our jobs.
