After trained examiners and accomplished business professionals performed a thorough assessment of his book, Kevin Duggan has been selected as a recipient of an internationally recognized award from The Shingo Prize for Operational Excellence, part of the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business. Duggan will receive the award at the 25th Annual Shingo Prize International Conference the week of May 6-10.

The Shingo Prize for Operational Excellence, part of the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business at Utah State University, has selected “Design for Operational Excellence: A Breakthrough Strategy for Business Growth” by Kevin Duggan as a recipient of the Shingo Research and Professional Publication Award. Duggan is the president at Duggan Associates, an operational excellence consultancy.
“Receipt of the Shingo Research and Professional Publication Award signifies authors’ significant contribution to the body of knowledge surrounding operational excellence,” said Robert Miller, executive director of The Shingo Prize. ““The intent is to motivate others to learn from them.”
In his book, Duggan asserts that an organization has achieved operational excellence “when each and every employee can see the flow of value to the customer and fix that flow before it breaks down.” Duggan devotes the first part of his book aligning readers as to how and why companies undertake continuous improvement efforts. He then details, step-by-step, the process of creating a flow of value in all areas of an organization.
The book concludes with three case studies regarding separate companies that successfully employed a design for operational excellence, achieving financial goals. Rebounding from the recession quicker than their competitors, these three companies represent what organizations can accomplish when they design apply timeless principles of operational excellence.

Duggan will receive the award during the opening social of the 25th Annual Shingo Prize International Conference held in Provo, Utah, the week of May 6-10, 2013. The opening social is the beginning of this four-day event featuring a selection of workshops, plant tours, keynote speakers and breakout sessions designed to provide ongoing knowledge, insights and experience for organizations in their pursuit of operational excellence.
