Former girls basketball coach accused of sexual battery

Posted: Updated:

A former assistant girls basketball coach at Hancock High School is accused of having sex with a 16-year-old girl.

According to Hancock County's sheriff, Leslie Danielle DeWitt is charged with three counts of sexual battery.  DeWitt is 31-years-old.  Sources tell that until last month, she was the head basketball coach at Pearl River Central High School.

A news release from Hancock County Sheriff Ricky Adam says DeWitt "was in a position of trust or authority over the child victim" at the time of the alleged incidents.  It does not specify when the sexual battery took place.  However, the sheriff does say the alleged violations occurred in Hancock County.
