GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -
Ship Island Excursions will begin its new season tomorrow.
The Skrmetta family has been ferrying passengers to and from the popular barrier island for the past 30 years. Employees of the tourism related business spent this day making preparations. They cleaned the kitchen, stocked the snack bar and got things ready for the first visitors of the season.
Park Service employees are also busy. They used heavy equipment to move some of the sand that was displaced by last year's storm. Ship Island seemed to weather the winter quite well. In fact there's a large section of new beach on the southside of the island which was restored by Mother Nature.
