JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A house fire in Jackson sent smoke several hundred feet into the air close to Jackson State University Friday morning.

Jackson Fire Department Arson Investigator Greg Travis says the call for the fire at Pascagoula and Briggs Streets came in at 7:45 a.m.

Flames could be scene shooting from the roof of the home when crews arrived on scene. Travis says one person lived at the house where the fire started, but the resident was not home at the time.

A neighbor, however, was forced to escape their home when the blaze spread to a neighboring house. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and officials have not yet speculated on what may have caused the blaze. No one was hurt in the incident.
