Forest man's death ruled a homicide

FOREST, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

An official with The Scott County Sheriff's Office says the department is investigating a homicide that occurred Tuesday morning.

According to Under Sheriff Richard Gregory, a homicide occurred within the county Tuesday morning, but because deputies are still in the process of contacting potential witnesses, he could not reveal any more details into the investigation.

Scott County Coroner Joe Bradford confirms the death of Martez Stowers, 23, of Forest. Stowers was taken by a private vehicle to the Lackey Hospital emergency room in Forest Tuesday morning and was pronounced dead at 10:44 a.m. after suffering a gunshot wound.

Although Bradford could not reveal the details surrounding the incident, he did confirm that Stowers' official cause of death is listed as homicide.
