Report: Brandon woman steals from elderly

Posted: Updated:
RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Brandon woman who fled to Texas to avoid prosecution has been returned to Rankin County to face charges for exploitation of a vulnerable person.

Janice Mohorn-Caines arrived at the Rankin County Jail Tuesday from Round Rock, Texas. She was picked up March 11 on outstanding Mississippi warrants.

"This case should serve as notice that we will do whatever it takes to bring perpetrators to justice, even if it means bringing them in from two states away," said Attorney General Jim Hood.

Mohorn-Caines was indicted by a Rankin County grand jury in July on four counts of felonious exploitation of a vulnerable person. Warrants have been outstanding since that time.

Mohorn-Caines is accused of stealing items worth more than $5,000 from residents of Emeritus at Heritage House, where she was employed.

She is scheduled to appear in Rankin County Circuit Court this week for arraignment.
