Mississippi Surge getting ready for SPHL playoffs

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Coach Jeff Bes had his Surge players out on the ice Tuesday morning in preparation for two big games this weekend with the Riverkings.

In eight previous games, the Surge hold a 6-1 and 1 edge, but dropped the last two, one in overtime.

Following Friday's game inside the Mississippi Coast Coliseum, the two teams head to Southaven for a crucial contest Saturday night.

The Surge have piled up 53 points, one point behind 5th place Columbus and three points in front of the Mississippi Riverkings.@

Bes said, "We have to attack their net. They have a good goaltender but he tends to give up some rebounds so we need to get in there and have a player high in the slot, a good F-3 as we call and look for rebounds and pounce on it that the goalie gives up."

Adam Stuart is the Surge top gun, having pulled the trigger on 12 goals and 22 assists for a total of 34 points. Stuart feels confident as the prepare

for the Riverkings.

"We've got to get pucks behind their defense," he stated. "They've got slow defensemen and we've got big fast forwards, good cycle, and we should be successful."

The Surge hope to grind it out against the Riverkings Friday and Sunday.
