Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton and City Council members will not be getting a pay raise this year.
The Citizens' Commission on Salaries for Elected City Officials said Monday it voted not to recommended a pay hike. The commission met on Thursday in accordance with the Phoenix City Charter.
"The economies of the city, the state and the country are not yet sufficiently robust to support a salary increase, and it was for this reason alone that the Commission reached the decision that it did," Chair Susan Ehrlich stated in a letter.
The mayor and council members have not received a salary increase since 2005, Ehrlich noted.
Mayor Stanton received an annual salary of $88,000 and each of the council members get paid $61,600 a year.
