St. Thomas Water Assoc. boil water alert

BOLTON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The St. Thomas Water Association has issued a boil water alert for its customers.

The boil water notice is effective March 9, 2013 and affects approximately 385 customers in the Hinds County area.

Water system officials notified the Mississippi State Department of Health of a system wide pressure loss due to one or more line breaks.

"The county was repairing a bridge in the community when the main water line was struck," said, Dorothy Bozeman, Secretary for the Board of Directors for the St. Thomas Water Association.

Public health officials consider any system that loses pressure contaminated until tests prove otherwise.

Health officials strongly recommend that all water be boiled vigorously for one minute before it is consumed.

The water system will be notified when tests show the water is safe to drink.
