Animal rescue League hosts first ever horse adoption

Posted: Updated:
CLINTON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

For the first time ever the Mississippi Animal Rescue League featured some of their horses in need of a home. After Saturday's event it's very likely some of those animals will end up out of the shelter and with a family soon.

The adoption event featured four horses, including one Appaloosa and three Quarter Horses.

"This event today is a first for us," said Kenny Moore, the Operations Manager at the shelter.

Moore said many of the pets have ended up at the rescue league after owners could no longer afford them. Each horse has a story.

There's one Quarter Horse named Disani. Yes, he's named after the brand of water. Disani got his name after the rescue league used a bucket of water to lure him into a trailer after he'd run loose in Claiborne County.

Charlotte Freeman and her daughters are serious about adopting.

"My youngest is interested in Angel and my oldest is kind of interested to see if Disani might be a match," said Freeman.

Freeman's family knows firsthand what a difference adoption can make. The mom recently adopted her girls from Europe.

"To take something or someone who has been kind of set aside and to give them a home and love them and show them the attention they deserve is very special. They always kind of look for that pet that nobody wants, it makes it more special to them," said Freeman.

MARL has seven other horses at the shelter; they're currently in rehab before they go up for adoption. For more information in upcoming MARL event go to http://www.msarl.org/.

The event will be going on until 4 p.m. Saturday.
