JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

There was a long line of unhappy customers outside American Tax Service at Raymond Road and Medical Plaza in Jackson Friday. Customers said they wanted answers about tax refunds they'd been promised.

Robin Horton said she has been getting the runaround and was told to contact the Internal Revenue Service. Horton says many of the people who filed their taxes with the business were listed as self employed or as students. Horton says she is not self employed or in school.

"The IRS is checking behind what they are putting on your taxes. And also people that are head of household, they're putting you're single, instead of head of household with your dependents," Horton said.

Horton says she used American Tax Service last year and didn't have a problem. She also says there has been no word on when customers will get their refunds.

Horton's complaint is one of many 3 On Your Side has received regarding American Tax Service.

In late February, customer April Carter said she was scammed by the business. She discovered they'd incorrectly marked her as self-employed and eligible for a school credits. She doesn't fit either description.

The Better Business Bureau warns that people must do their research before hiring a tax service. If it sounds too good to be true, check it, and don't walk away without copies of the paperwork.
