Surprise officer involved in 2-car crash

SURPRISE, AZ (CBS5) -

One person was hurt in a two-vehicle crash involving an on-duty Surprise police officer.

Police said the officer was driving on Bell Road approaching Sunrise when the woman suddenly turned in to him. Police said he hit the brakes and her car hit the front of his vehicle before she swerved and crashed into a pole.

She was flown to the hospital with a possible head injury.

Her 8-year-old child, who was also in the vehicle and the officer are both fine.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.

    Stone County Emergency Management Director Raven James says he hasn’t seen this much rain a long time, but as quickly as the rain fell, it’s receding. Reports indicate as much as seven inches of rain fell on Wiggins and its surrounding communities. James said throughout the morning downpour, ditches filled up, spilling water on to several roads.
