JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Jackson police say its Vice and Narcotics Unit made two arrests and seized crack cocaine, a handgun and $10,738 in cash after receiving numerous complaints of drug traffic at a residence on Mill Street.

"Neighborhoods, individuals in general are tired of seeing the street level drug activities going on on their streets and in their neighborhoods," said Chief Rebecca Coleman.

Derrick Womack, 29, is charged with possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute within 1,500 feet of a church with a handgun.

"It takes an effort between the police department and the citizens to help us to get things like this off the streets," explained Coleman.

Police say the 44 ounces of cocaine has a street value of $1,000.

A second person, Idris Hakeem Muhammad, 26, was charged with possession of marijuana.
