BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -
By Saturday, we may know whether or not a body found Friday in the Mississippi Sound is in fact that of missing kayaker Nicholas Rainer.
The Department of Marine Resources Marine Patrol recovered the body of a white man shortly after 1pm. A charter boat fisherman came across the body about five miles off the coast of Biloxi.
Officials moved swiftly to bring the body to shore, and on to Riemann Funeral Home.
The body has not yet been officially identified, but officials believe it may be Nick Rainer. The 22-year-old and his father, Kenneth, went fishing in their kayaks February 27th, but never returned. A shrimper found their kayaks and called police.
An autopsy last week showed Kenneth Rainer died from drowning.
Officials are working with family members and the Coroner's Office to get a positive identification on the body found Friday.
