Weekend Whereabouts March 8-10

SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) -

Finally we made it to Friday, the day when several fun activities begin.

For its second year, Gulfport High School will house the indoor guard and percussion show--Rhythm and Waves on Saturday. Thirty-one artistic and musically talented performers from Louisiana to Florida create a colorful show. This event guarantees a variety of styles and productions including percussion and guard ensembles.

Watch the dramatic stage production, "The Cost of Oil" premiering at the Biloxi Saenger Theater Friday and Saturday. This gospel stage play is full of drama and revolves around Vivian who was thrown out of her parents' home at 18. Years later she winds up in a in an abusive marriage of convenience. Her husband is consumed with the corporate ladder and an affair with his company's vice president. This on-the-edge-of-your-seat production will have you laughing one moment and in tears the next.

A swarm of Seabees invite you to the annual Seabee Family Day. Honor the many accomplishments of the men and women who make up the Naval Construction Force by bringing your family and friends on board. This event is slam packed with fun activities which consist of a variety of construction demonstrations, games, free carnival rides, plus more than 80 vendors. Musical performances include Jennifer Donovan and the Myles Sharp Band. Enter the base using the Pass Road Gate.

Want to learn how to capture those awesome photos the professionals take? Gulf Islands National Seashore is hosting a free one hour photo workshop with Professional photographer Tom Krebsbach. He'll offer tips and techniques to maximize your camera's potential and increase your photo taking skill set. This workshop is Saturday at the Gulf Islands National Seashore Visitor's Center.

This year's Boat and RV show features a great selection of the 2013 model of boats, motors, personal watercraft, RVs, campers and marine and RV accessories. This show is the best place to see all of the new models in one place for easy comparison shopping. The Biloxi Boat and RV Show is THE place to take advantage of "special show pricing" that is only offered at the show. In addition to a huge selection of boats and RVs, there are great special seminars.

Studio Ohr will hold a Pysanky egg making class on Saturday. The ladies of St. Patrick's Episcopal Church will teach the art form, which uses a hot wax resist process. Eggs are then painted and dyed to form a colorful work of art. Each participant leaves with a finished egg. Because pysanky art is so popular the adult class has already sold out, however, spots are still available for elementary ages.

    It's a rainy weekend along the Gulf Coast, with South Mississippi expecting to see Sub-Tropical Storm Alberto pass through late Sunday and into Monday. Being stuck inside because of the rain is no way to spend your Memorial Day holiday.

    In 2005, a bond issue for a new Long Beach High School failed. This summer, voters will revisit the issue, and Mayor Bass and others hope history doesn't repeat itself.
