Body found is that of missing mayoral candidate

Posted: Updated:
CLARKSDALE, MS (WMC) -

The body found Wednesday morning in Coahoma County is now confirmed to be that of Marco McMillian. The 34-year-old was a mayoral candidate in Clarksdale, Mississippi.

Police began searching for McMillian after his car was involved in an accident that sent two people to the hospital.

His body was found about 10 to 15 miles west of Clarksdale.

McMillian's friends gathered Tuesday night for a candlelight vigil to pray for his safety.

"I had just talked to him Monday of last week," said friend Keomi Scott. "We were all here, we were all rooting for him in the election for mayor and it's really hard."

"He was bringing more here for us here in Clarksdale with our youth, and everybody knew him," Catchings said.

Two of McMillian's challengers for the mayor's race were also at the vigil to show their support.
