OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) -

On Monday, Ocean Springs High students will have to return to school without one of their classmates.

According to Jackson County investigators, an off-duty Pascagoula police officer allegedly hit 16-year-old Kaytlynn Brann while she was headed home Friday. She was walking on the side of a Jackson County road.

She later died from her injuries on Saturday. While investigators await toxicology results on the man reportedly driving the truck, the teen's loved ones said they are still coming to terms with her death.

From the wacky pictures to the fun times, Brann's brother and her best friend said there was never a dull moment with her around.

"If you got to know Kaytlynn good enough, she would make you laugh," Kyler Brann said.

"She could make you laugh where you are on your knees just hitting the floor," Kaytlynn's best friend, Sarah Guy said.

The fun, loving girl had just turned 16-years-old a day before she was hit by a truck.

"I just couldn't handle it. I fell to my knees and I started crying," said Kyler Brann.

Guy said she was actually with her when the accident happened Friday night.

"Being their was really traumatizing," Guy said.

Facing the harsh reality of this loss is something that will be difficult.

"I like just had time to stop and breath last night," said Guy.

"It was shocking. I didn't expect my sister to get hit. She was a good kid, and she didn't do anything to deserve this," said Kaytlynn's brother.

Cherishing those happy memories of Kaytlynn is what family and friends said they'll try to do to get through her death.

The Brann family said they planning to hold a memorial service in honor of Kaytlynn.
