Jackson County officials say 16-year-old Kaytlynn Brann is now dead after she was hit by a truck Friday around 6:42 p.m.
Brann was in critical condition through Friday night, but died Saturday afternoon.
Brann and her friend were reportedly walking on the pavement when Brann was hit by a truck in Gulf Park Estates.
Officials say 44-year-old Daniel Snyder was driving the truck. Byrd says he's a Pascagoula police officer, but was off duty at the time of the incident. He has not been arrested. A blood test on Snyder is being conducted to determine if alcohol was a factor.
The accident is under investigation.
