JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Vicksburg Mayor Paul Winfield's political future isn't looking too bright. The FBI arrested Winfield on Wednesday and he was released from jail on a $10,000 bond the next day.

The FBI says Winfield agreed to accept $10,000 to guarantee a contractor do business with the city of Vicksburg.

Winfield isn't the only politician to make negative headlines recently. Earlier this week, former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin plead not guilty to a number of federal corruption charges, including bribery.  Also, Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. plead guilty in federal court to charges he spent more $750,000 in campaign funds for personal items.

Jackson State University Political Science Professor Dr. D'Andra Orey said political corruption often goes hand in hand with politics and business deals.

"It's the norm, I mean this is something going back to the 1900's. I mean 'if you want the contract you actually have to come through me' I mean that's where the narcissism comes in you know. 'I am the one that'll be awarding the contract'," said Dr. Orey.
