Proposed parkway between Livingston and Ascension moving forward

ASCENSION PARISH, LA (WAFB) -

The idea of connecting Livingston and Ascension Parishes with a parkway gained some steam Wednesday night. Residents in Ascension Parish attended an open house at Lakeside Primary that presented three proposed routes designed to streamline travel between a handful of communities.

"We actually live on one of the proposed routes which is 931 which would affect us and many others that have been there for years and years," said one local resident.

The project is in its early stages but serious enough that the two parishes, along with the state, have already invested $250,000 into a feasibility study.

"You already have a combined of almost 22 to 23,000 cars a day and with a projected doubling of population of both parishes in the next 20 years, you are going to need a route from I-10 to I-12," said Ascension Parish Senior Project Manager Ray Miller.

As the project moves forward, new routes and alternatives may be added and so will efforts designed at maximizing resources to aid with development.

"When it comes to doing the actual environmental study and boots on the ground there will be one to two hundred measurements and lining out where facility will be," added Miller.

A process that many residents plan to be a part of every step of the way.

"It will affect the school it will affect all the people that live in the area so we're very concerned  about being involved in the process and how they're going to make their choices."
