The state has approved $900,000 to renovate 66-year-old Governors Stadium, home of the Austin Peay State University football team.

The total cost of the project will be about $16.9 million, according to the school.

The entire home side of the stadium is scheduled to be torn down at the end of the 2013 football season and replaced with a new structure that will include skyboxes and about 800 club-level seats.

The upgrades will expand the stadium capacity by 5,000 seats.  Additional renovations will be made to the visitor's side.

The entire project is expected to be completed by the start of the 2014 football season.
