BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -
The interim director of the Department of Marine Resource is trying to solve a mystery. How did the agency spend $4 million in state money over the past decade?
Danny Guice tells WLOX News that record keeping at the DMR was not up to proper standards in the past. He says he's been able to trace about half of the money so far, and as best he can tell the money was spent properly.
The other $2 million is still unaccounted for, but Guice is continuing to try and reconcile those accounts. He also promises tighter accounting control at the DMR in the future.
The former longtime director of the agency, Dr. Bill Walker was fired last month. The investigation into Walker's spending practices by state and federal officials continues.
