Making a difference in Hattiesburg

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Central Mississippians are making a big difference for tornado victims in Hattiesburg. Saturday morning the Salvation Army's Ken Chapman drove one of the Salvation Army trucks down to Hattiesburg.

The truck was filled with close to 400 boxes filled with non-perishable food. All of the food was donated by generous shoppers during a food drive in Madison on Friday.

"People are very very aware of need and they were very generous yesterday plus we got about $2,500 donated in cash as well and that's going to go straight to the storm victims," said Captain Chapman.

For other ways to donate financially to tornado relief efforts, you can text the Salvation Army by texting "STORM" to 80888. You can also donate to the Red Cross by simply texting REDCROSS to 90999.
