Morgan continues to improve

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Two names come to mind when people around the LSU campus and Baton Rouge talk about what players are playing lights out for Johnny Jones' Tigers, Sophomores Anthony Hickey and Johnny O' Bryant III.

Both guys are deserving of the good praises coming their way. Hickey leads the SEC in steals and O'Bryant is tied for the league lead with nine double doubles. But now another guy who is trying to join those star-studded sophomores is Malik Morgan.

The freshman is starting to see the light and even the starting lineup. The guard from John Curtis has played in all 21 games and started the last three.

Over the last nine games he has averaged 25 minutes and seven points. Coach Jones says Morgan has gotten better from the time he stepped on campus in the summer to today. Jones likes what he brings defensively and from the outside on offense.

Morgan feels his confidence improved as the season has gone on and likes playing in the starting role because he adds a lot of energy to the lineup. Morgan's career and season high up to this point is the 11 points he scored in a loss against Georgia in January.

Morgan is projected to make his fourth consecutive start Thursday night when LSU travels to Columbia to face the South Carolina Gamecocks. In the Tigers' first outing against the Gamecocks, Morgan scored six points on 2-8 shooting.
