ELLISVILLE, MS (WDAM) -
Quick thinking by two good Samaritans possibly saved the home of a Jones County family of four Friday.
Just after 2 p.m. a neighbor spotted smoke coming from the home and called 911. Two people driving by the home in the 200-block of Jordan Road also spotted smoke coming from the home and stopped. They went to the back side of the house where they spotted flames on the back porch. They grabbed a garden hose and kept a steady stream of water on the fire until firefighters arrived.
Firefighters from Southwest and South Jones were able to put the fire out in a matter of minutes.
Fire damage to the home was contained to the porch and the kitchen area with some smoke damage throughout the rest of the home. Officials say if not for the two men keeping the fire contained the home could have been destroyed or severely damaged.
The fire is believed to have started on the back porch, but what caused it is not known.
The Ellisville Volunteer Fire Department was called in to assist.
