Some Jackson County supervisors don't want to see people carrying guns in parks and other public areas despite a new gun law in the state. As WLOX has reported, starting July 1st Mississippians will be able to openly carry a gun and other weapons with or without a permit.   Some Jackson county leaders want to create a local ordinance to keep weapons in check.
HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

A grand jury has decided not to indict a Hancock County man for murder. Assistant District Attorney Mathew Burrell told WLOX Herman Johnson will not be tried for the murder of Louie Matranga.

Matranga was found shot to death at a home on Kiln Waveland Cutoff in April 2012.

Johnson was not immediately arrested, even though he was identified as the shooter, because the sheriff's department wasn't sure if it was self defense. But a few weeks later sheriff deputies charged Johnson with murder.

Burrell said the Hancock County Sheriff's Department did an outstanding job investigating the case and if new evidence is found, they will present the case again to a grand jury.
