BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
Authorities said a man suspected of shooting at a sheriff's
deputy late Wednesday night has been arrested on an attempted murder charge.
Stephen Gordon, 23, of Plaquemine is charged with
attempted first-degree murder of a police officer and felon in possession of a
firearm. The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office said the shooting
happened on Jones Creek Road in Baton Rouge around 11:15 p.m.
According to investigators, a deputy went to a home in
the 6200 block of Jones Creek and saw Gordon standing in the doorway holding a
gun. They said the deputy walked up and tried to talk to him, but the suspect
ran off and went behind a business.
EBRSO reported the deputy sent a police dog after him,
but it didn't get to him. Gordon is accused of firing several shots at the
deputy, but they all missed. He then ran away.
Deputies searched the area and found Gordon not far
away in the backyard of a home in the 15400 block of Altus Avenue.
Authorities said he had three warrants for his arrest
through the Iberville Parish Sheriff's Office. Those charges were added when he
was booked in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
Records show Gordon was convicted of five counts of
simple burglary in West Baton Rouge Parish on March 29, 2011. He is currently
on probation.
