MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) – A man was found near an elementary school Thursday morning after being stabbed.

Police say the call came into them around 8:30 a.m. as a shooting.

"All I heard was that there was a shooting over here and I know my grand baby is over here," said one adult on the scene.

Parents and grandparents rushed to Sherwood Elementary School after hearing the news through the grapevine.

"And I'm going to stay out here 'til I see what's going on," said grandparent Claude Boyd.

Due to a lockdown, parents were not immediately allowed inside the school. As police searched the area for clues, parents' concern grew.

Parents would later learn that a man was stabbed, rather than shot. But there were also unconfirmed reports that shots were fired.

According to police, a man was stabbed outside of the school after getting into an argument with a woman dropping her child off at the school.

The victim was treated on the scene and released.

No charges have been filed in the stabbing yet.
