LSU men’s basketball team hosts Vanderbilt Wednesday at 7pm

From LSU Sports

BATON ROUGE – The LSU men's basketball goes for its third consecutive league win Wednesday when it hosts Vanderbilt at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center at 7 p.m.

The Tigers are 12-7 and 3-5 in the league after wins last week, 73-70, over No. 17 Missouri and a rallying win at Mississippi State, 69-68. Vanderbilt is 8-12 and 2-6 in the league after losses last week at Tennessee, 58-57, and at home to Alabama, 58-54.

The game will not be shown on over-the-air television or cable, but will be available on ESPN3 and the Watch ESPN app for phones and tablets. The radio broadcast will be available on the LSU Sports Radio Network and in the Geaux Zone at LSUsports.net.

A thousand LSU Glass Cups will be given away along with foam fingers and t-shirts to the students. An LSU student will have a chance to win $500 in a halftime promotion and the ACME Oyster Student Lounge will be open prior to the game. All LSU Students are admitted free of charge with valid student ID.

Tickets are available at LSUtix.net, while tickets for just $5 will be available at the Baton Rouge River Center for those attending the Bayou Bash recruiting party. Gates and ticket windows at the Maravich Center will open one hour prior to tipoff.

Anthony Hickey's floater with 1.5 seconds to play was the difference in the Mississippi State win for LSU and forward Johnny O'Bryant III continues to play well with five straight double doubles, the most since former Tiger Glen Davis had eighth straight in 2006.

But after a successful week another week of home on Wednesday and the road on Saturday looms large.

"We're excited about, obviously, the events over the past week and the outcome of the two games," said LSU Coach Johnny Jones. "We also know that this week ahead is very challenging for us. We're hopeful to be able to look back at last week, the growth of our team because of the events and things that happened towards the end of games, finishing well. We hope that it will carry over this week that we'll continue to grow. Two really tough teams, Vanderbilt, I don't think you look at their record. The games they've played have been extremely close. Kentucky, a two-point game and a very close game with Alabama as well. They've been right there with Tennessee, I think another two-point game. So, a very tough schedule they've played. They've only been a few possessions away from their record looking totally different. Alabama is continuing to get better each night out. So, we look forward to those challenges this week, and we embrace them."

LSU looks to probably start the same lineup as it used against Mississippi State with Hickey (12.4 ppg), Andre Stringer (11.1 ppg) and Malik Morgan (5.4 ppg) at guards, with O'Bryant III (11.9 ppg) and Shavon Coleman (11.9 ppg) at the forwards.

Vanderbilt, which has won the last seven meetings in the series, is getting 14.9 points a contest from Kedren Johnson and 10.1 points from Kyle Fuller.
