WAVELAND, MS (WLOX) -

The 46th Annual Krewe of Nereids Mardi Gras parade rolled through the streets of Waveland Sunday afternoon. Thousands of people lined Highway 90 to catch some beads.

Young and old gathered for one reason.

"To get lots of beads and have a good time," said Charles McDaniel.

They came from near and far.

"We came from Michigan," said Rita Marino.

"We're RV full timers from Wisconsin," said Cathy King.

King had a unique way of making her presence known with a sign that read, "Mardi Gras virgin."

As the parade rolled by, her first Mardi Gras parade didn't disappoint her.

"Lots of fun. Lots of music, colorful," said King.

Austyn Manasco had a little something extra to celebrate.

"I was six, but I'm turning seven," said Austyn.

Young girls like Austyn imagined when they'll be able to ride the floats.

"I would throw to kids that want stuffed animals, stuffed animals and beads," said young girls.

In the middle of the festive floats and colorful costumes was the Grand Marshal of the parade, better known to many as WLOX Meteorologist Carrie Duncan.

On the Krewe of Campers float was WLOX Reporter Michelle Lady, Good Morning Mississippi Anchor Meggan Gray and WLOX Digital Content Director Renee Johnson. They were decked out in rock star attire.

The day was full of loud music, dancing, and bead throwing.

While all good things must come to an end, this end was filled with smiles and satisfaction.

"Happy Mardi Gras," said spectators.
