SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) -
Around 40 needy children from Jackson County and Mobile County received free pairs of shoes today at Payless ShoeSource in Pascagoula.
It was all part of Tri-Coastal Community Outreach's On Wings of Dove Christmas Toy Distribution Program.
The families were pre-selected to receive $20 shoe certificates provided by Payless ShoeSource Foundation.
The shoe giant gave a total of $2,000 to Tri-Coastal Community Outreach. Co-founder and Executive Director of the non-profit is Carolyn Thompson. She said the children came from families who are some of the neediest in the Gulf Coast.
"You have a lot of families here who are unemployed. They are out of work. Some of them lost their jobs because of the oil spill and still have not been gainfully employed again," Thompson said. "So for the program such as this to choose them is absolutely awesome."
